The Romeo Collection Expands Its Luxury Portfolio with Romeo Massa Lubrense

The Romeo Collection has officially announced the upcoming launch of its third property, Romeo Massa Lubrense, with an anticipated debut slated for May 2027. The new destination emerges as an exclusive retreat suspended between architecture and nature, designed to offer guests a rare escape centered around reclaimed time, privacy, and a deep connection to its dramatic geographical surroundings.

Tucked away in a secluded natural reserve in Punta San Lorenzo, the property occupies a privileged geographical position as the closest point of the coastline to the island of Capri. Adding to its unique topography, Romeo Massa Lubrense is built directly onto a private natural fjord, creating an immediate and intimate relationship with the water. The project represents a careful, thoughtful evolution of the historic 1963 Hotel Delfino, which has been reimagined with a rigorous commitment to environmental restoration and contemporary luxury hospitality.

To bring this vision to life, The Romeo Collection enlisted renowned architect Kengo Kuma. Through Kuma’s visionary approach, the property maximizes its connection to its breathtaking surroundings, resulting in a contemporary sanctuary that effortlessly blends cutting-edge architecture with raw, untouched nature. The overarching design is deeply rooted in Kuma’s philosophy of dissolving architecture into the landscape, as well as the traditional Japanese concept of Ma, which dictates that emptiness is not an absence, but rather a powerful, silent presence.

The material palette chosen for the resort relies heavily on warm, organic tones and natural Mediterranean elements. These include local tuff, travertine, American walnut, and matte ceramics. These carefully selected materials, paired with transparency and the soft, signature curves for which Kuma is internationally celebrated, ensure that the architecture achieves a sense of visual subtraction, remaining completely relieved of unnecessary clutter. Every design choice has been deliberated to focus the guest’s attention entirely on the interplay of light, shadow, and sea.

The boundaries of the 63 rooms and suites dissolve entirely to offer true indoor-outdoor living. Expansive windows and open-air transitions frame the view over the Gulf, effectively blurring the separation between the property’s infinity pool and the open sea. This minimalistic design, strictly bound by the natural topography of the cliffside, ensures that the property becomes fundamentally one with the sea, the light, and the rugged nature that defines the Amalfi-adjacent coastline.

Reflecting on the strategic importance and creative ambition of the new property, Alfredo Romeo, founder of The Romeo Collection, shared his perspective on the project. "Our vision for The Romeo Collection has always been to create experiences driven by their destinations, and Massa Lubrense captures the authentic, slow-living spirit of the Italian coast like nowhere else," says Alfredo Romeo. "I am thrilled to soon share this project, which will marry a rare, dramatic natural landscape with unparalleled design and hospitality. We are creating an ultra-exclusive retreat that I believe will truly redefine the luxury resort experience in Italy."

As preparations continue toward the May 2027 debut, Romeo Massa Lubrense stands poised to set a new benchmark for high-end hospitality in the region, seamlessly merging environmental consciousness, architectural mastery, and the timeless allure of the Italian coastline.
