The property takes its distinctive name from the traditional Spanish verbena, which refers to a lively neighbourhood celebration that traditionally brings local communities together through food, music, and shared cultural practices. By adopting this moniker, the hotel aims to encapsulate the warmth, conviviality, and social energy that define authentic Spanish social life, offering guests a portal into the genuine rhythms of the city rather than a standard, detached tourist experience.
Beyond the concept of the celebration, Casa Verbena Madrid draws profound inspiration from costumbrismo, the rich Spanish artistic tradition dedicated to depicting local customs, everyday characters, and daily rituals. Rather than focusing strictly on the city’s monumental landmarks, the design philosophy looks outward toward the neighborhood cafés, bustling streets, and communal squares that shape daily life for Madrileños. This narrative is woven intricately into the physical fabric of the property, creating an environment where visitors can feel instantly connected to the urban landscape around them.

The interiors of the hotel were crafted by Madrid-born designer Lorenzo Castillo, who infused the 45 guestrooms and shared spaces with a distinctly local perspective on the city. Castillo’s design approach incorporates costumbrismo-inspired artwork, warm and inviting materials, fluted glass elements, elegant brass finishes, and carefully layered textures. Together, these decorative choices reference Madrid’s architectural and cultural heritage, reinterpreting traditional motifs through a modern and sophisticated lens.
Accommodation at Casa Verbena Madrid has been designed to maximize the connection to the urban environment. Many of the guestrooms look directly onto Preciados street, offering guests a front-row seat to the typical Madrid façades and the constant, energetic flow of city life below. Meanwhile, the specialized Preciados Rooms offer an even more expansive vantage point, opening onto private terraces that provide sweeping views across the historic city rooftops and stretching toward the majestic Royal Palace in the distance.
Speaking on the philosophy behind the property, Álvaro Mazaheri, Managing Director of Arte Hoteles, shared his vision for the guest experience. He noted that Casa Verbena Madrid offers a fresh perspective on the capital, designed to appeal equally to those discovering the city for the first time and to seasoned travelers returning to experience it in a different way. He emphasized that from a breakfast inspired by local favorites to personalized recommendations that management would naturally share with close friends, the goal is to ensure every stay reveals more of the authentic Madrid that lies just beyond its most famous sights.

The opening also marks a significant milestone for Hilton’s growing soft brand portfolios. Elizabeth Scruggs, Brand Leader for Outset Collection by Hilton, explained that Casa Verbena Madrid perfectly represents the core essence of the brand by offering guests a stay that feels deeply connected to its destination. As the very first property for the brand in Europe, it establishes a clear tone for how the collection envisions its global expansion moving forward through independent hotels characterized by compelling stories, strong local identities, and a genuine sense of discovery. With more than 100 hotels currently under development globally, Scruggs highlighted that the collection is building a portfolio of individual properties that invite travelers to experience destinations through a more personal lens, all while enjoying the reliable benefits and backing of the Hilton network.
David Kelly, Senior Vice President for Continental Europe at Hilton, added further context regarding the strategic importance of the launch within the Spanish market. He stated that Madrid remains a profoundly special destination for Hilton, noting that the company has steadily broadened its presence across the city in recent years through a variety of distinctive brands and properties tailored to meet the diverse needs of modern travelers. According to Kelly, Casa Verbena Madrid builds directly upon that ongoing narrative as the European debut of the Outset Collection. Brimming with character and boasting a formidable sense of place, the new hotel successfully reflects the creativity and energy that define contemporary Madrid. Hilton expressed great enthusiasm in welcoming the property to its expanding collection portfolio throughout Europe, setting the stage for future developments under the brand banner.
