Virgin Voyages has cancelled a cruise scheduled to take place onboard the Brilliant Lady, starting on October 30, 2027. According to a formal statement sent directly to booked guests, the upcoming voyage will no longer proceed as originally planned due to a private charter arrangement taking over the vessel for that specific timeframe.
As part of the ship’s broader fall season on the West Coast, the seven-night cruise was originally scheduled to sail a scenic route to the Mexican Riviera. Sailing roundtrip from the cruise hub of Los Angeles, the popular itinerary included scheduled visits to San Diego in California, as well as Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada in Mexico. The cancellation disrupts travel plans that many passengers had secured well in advance for the autumn 2027 voyage.
In the communication sent to affected travelers, cruise line representatives expressed regret over the sudden change in schedule. “We’re sorry for the disruption. We know how much planning goes into a vacation like this, and we certainly don’t take this lightly,” the company added, acknowledging the logistical challenges and disappointment that schedule alterations cause for loyal guests.
To address the situation and mitigate the inconvenience, Virgin Voyages stated that it has put together alternative arrangements. “To make this right, we’ve put together a few options to give you flexibility to choose what works best for you,” the company continued in its message to the impacted clientele.
According to online reports detailing the compensation packages, guests are being offered the option of moving their bookings to any other seven-night cruise departing from Los Angeles between September 18 and November 13, 2027. During that broader timeframe, the Brilliant Lady is still scheduled to offer a series of cruises to the Mexican Riviera, taking travelers to vibrant destinations including Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, and other regional highlights along the coast.
To ensure that passengers are not financially penalized by the shift, Virgin is reportedly honoring the exact fare paid for the original cruise, alongside any other promotions and perks that were secured during the initial booking process. Furthermore, to help smooth over the transition and enhance the alternative sailing experience, the cruise line will also provide a $100 onboard credit for guests to spend during their new voyage.
For passengers who prefer not to transfer their vacation to a different date or itinerary, Virgin Voyages is also providing a complete exit route. Travelers will be able to cancel their bookings entirely in exchange for a full refund. The company confirmed that these refunds will be issued directly back to the passenger’s original form of payment, ensuring a straightforward and secure return of funds.
This latest scheduling adjustment follows other operational shifts experienced by the Brilliant Lady. In related news, Virgin recently adjusted another itinerary for the vessel due to adverse weather conditions encountered on the West Coast. As reported by Cruise Industry News, the ship’s October 20, 2026, itinerary was completely rerouted, dropping its originally planned visits to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta to ensure guest and crew safety amidst challenging marine forecasts. Instead of heading south into deeper Mexican waters, the Brilliant Lady was rescheduled to sail an alternative route focusing on California and Baja Mexico, bringing guests to popular ports including San Francisco, San Diego, and Ensenada instead.
